Gaming In Education Debate

Today we had a Gaming in Education Debate.

We were For gaming in Education and the other team against. We all researched our topics and took turns to introduce our arguments.

I feel that our arguments were very valid and even though we lost by 4 points I still feel we did very well to put across our main points and we managed to find a counter argument for nearly everything the other team had to say. We argued points for our argument. For example, gaming in education promotes different skills such as negotiation skills and communication skills. It also interests children who may find it more difficult to learn through conventional styles such as reading and writing.

Also there were four people in our team compared to the many MANY more in the other team which was slightly unfair. Even though the other team put across a good argument, I still feel that for the reasons I just stated that we are still the real winners:)

I think overall the whole class enjoyed the debate and the overall opinion is that we all feel that gaming in education is a positive aspect.

Bow street runner

We just had a gaming session in class.

I played a game called Bow street runner. It was an investigational game that involved finding evidence to move to the next level.

I felt it was very slow and and couldn't navigate my way around very well but enjoyed the challenge of trying.

Looking forward to trying more games.

20th January 2011

Back in ICT today. Had a busy busy week! Have been working and doing Christmas parties which were postponed by the bad snow in December, and also started an alpha course with my friends which is really good.

Today we are looking at gaming in our lecture and we're going to look at what we think about gaming. Next week we are debating about gaming in education which should make for a good discusssion.

It's nice being back in uni but looking forward to placements in March and being in school for a while. The assignments are also beginning now too so will be getting busier soon!
